About Moffat Seed Library

More about Moffat Seed Library

We operate in the DG10, DG11 and ML12 areas of Dumfries and Galloway. We’re keen to keep the Seed Library fairly local so we can develop seeds that are particularly well suited to our local climate and conditions – which in Moffat, let’s face it, probably means they’ll need waterproofs and wellies.

It also makes it easier for you to get to know other members of Moffat Seed Library – if you don’t already know them. And, if we keep it local, we don’t need to ship seeds, so we don’t get caught out with costly transportation and postage charges.

Membership is free to everyone

Because we don’t want money to be a barrier to joining in or to growing your own, membership is free to everyone, though donations are always welcome.

If there are any barriers other than money that are stopping you becoming a member, email us and we’ll see what we can do to remove them.

To join, simply fill in this online form.

We’re starting small, but aiming high

Our dream is that Moffat Seed Library grows into a dynamic, important part of our local culture and heritage, freely and creatively sharing seeds and stories and learning between our members.

But we have to be realistic. Because we’re in the early years of the Seed Library, we’re starting small(ish) and with baby(ish) steps.

There’s no point having a Seed Library with no seeds! So in the early years, members will be able to take up to 10 free packets of this year’s seeds, but can take unlimited packets of older seeds. This offer is limited to one member per household. As members return seeds to Moffat Seed Library, we hope we’ll be able to remove any limit on how many packets of seeds members can take.
