Tomato: Balconi Red
Balconi Red is a compact cherry tomato variety bred for containers, hanging baskets, and small spaces. It produces clusters of sweet, bite-sized red fruits with excellent flavour, perfect for snacking or adding to salads. Naturally bushy and requiring little pruning, it’s an ideal choice for gardeners wanting delicious homegrown tomatoes without the need for a large garden. In a good summer, can be grown outdoors – it may struggle in cooler, wetter summers.

How to grow: Sow indoors March–April in warmth. Prick out seedlings into individual pots once large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out in May–June under cover or in containers, baskets, or sunny sheltered spots outdoors. Water regularly and feed with tomato fertiliser once flowers appear. Harvest when fruits are fully red and slightly soft to the touch.
Cooking / usage ideas: Perfect eaten straight from the plant, added to salads, or used in packed lunches. Excellent for children’s gardens and beginner growers.

Seeds saved by: Jane, from plants grown from Thompson and Morgan seeds. Note this is an F1 variety. Tomatoes are self fertile, so while you may get a few rogue plants, most should grow true to type.
