Pea: Rosakrone
A gloriously pretty Swedish heirloom pea, with rose-pink and ivory flowers held in little crowns above the foliage. The pods can be eaten young as mangetout or left to develop into small, sweet green peas.
These seeds were grown and saved locally by Jane from peas sown under a Leo moon in March 2026. The original seeds were from Real Seeds.

Description
Rosakrone is described as a semi-dwarf pea, supposed to grow to around 4–5ft, but ours were on steroids and shot past 7ft over a long weekend. Welcome to gardening in stilettos. They need a much sturdier trellis and a lot more space than I gave them.
Most of the frankly gorgeous flowers and pods appear in delicate clusters at the top of the plants, so technically easy to pick if you don’t like bending down. Once you’ve harvested the first flower clusters, you may get a few more further down the stems.
The peas are described as small and sweet, perfect as mangetout or young peas. Ours went from mangetout to bullets almost overnight. Pick them young—and keep a close eye on them—unless you’re planning to make mushy peas.
I’ll never trust a pea that calls itself semi-dwarf again. But those flowers… wow! We’d happily grow Rosakrone just for those.
Sow outdoors from April to May in a sunny, open position with rich, moist but well-drained soil. Sow a few every couple of weeks if you’d like to spread the harvest.
